Postgraduate Student – ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE LAB

PROJECT START: As soon as a successful candidate is found

Project Title: Future Autonomous / Connected / Electrified vehicle architecture: demonstrator development

The aim of the project is to support the development of future vehicle architecture that would enable Autonomous, Connected and Electrified vehicle features, spanning all stages of technology product development and with a specific focus on future vehicle architectures. Within this project, you’ll start off by gathering customer and system-level requirements as well as performing competitor benchmarking and literature review. You’ll be involved in data collection and analysis, design and both software (Python) and hardware (electronics) development, with part of the project also involving validation and user trials as well as gaining exposure to the relevant documentation.

Key Interactions

During the project, there will be a number of key interactions. These will include working alongside Jaguar Land Rover’s engineers and managers as well as a number of project partner organisations.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

The prime requirement for participation in this project is to be pursuing a postgraduate degree in engineering or science. It is just as important that you’ll have a degree in computer science, maths, statistics, biostatistics, electronics, mechatronics or robotics. This role will also require some "hacking" skills so as to enable you to find software and hardware solutions for new problems, and you should possess strong knowledge in machine learning, statistics, cybersecurity, data science or robotics. Extensive programming experience (Python/C++/C#/Java/MATLAB) will also be required.

Though not essential, it is desirable that you’ll also have knowledge of automotive networks, data and systems.

As an individual, it’s best if you come to this project with a can-do attitude and team-playing skills. As a learner, you should be both quick and eager, as well as demonstrating resilience, enthusiasm and the ability to deliver results even when under pressure while constructively responding to new ideas and inputs.

Disclaimer

This project is offered to those who are pursuing a postgraduate degree (at least MSc or equivalent) as a part of the Research Postgraduate Placement Scheme. All placements are offered on a fixed term contract and must complete within twelve months, or sooner if specified in the start and completion information as part of this specification. You will agree with your manager on a suitable start and finish time and project objectives aligned with your technical interests and business needs. Students must already have a Right to Work in the UK visa for the complete duration of the placement, and be able to undertake 40 hours per week, each week, for the duration of the project.
